Poems & Songs

Can you write a poem or a song about bees?

honey bee

This daughter of mine
Won’t eat nectar
Said the queen bee

Please, doctar,

Why it’s simple
Said he
She is unhappy because
You neglectar!

Honey from the white rose, honey from the red
Is not that a pretty thing to spread upon your bread?
When the flower is open, the bees begins to buzz,
I’m very glad, I’m very glad, I’m very glad it does …..
Honey from the lily,
Honey from the may,
And the daffodilly
And the lilac spray …..
When the snow is falling, when the fires are red,
Is not that a pretty thing to spread upon your bread?

The Bees’ Song

Thousandz of thornz there be
On the Rozez where gozez
The Zebra of Zee:
Sleek, striped, and hairy,
The steed of the Fairy
Princess of Zee

Heavy with blossoms be
The Rozez that growzez
In the thickets of Zee,
Where grazez the Zebra
Marked Abracadeeebra
Of the Princess of Zee

And he nozez the poziez
Of the Rozez that growzez
So luvez’m and free,
With an eye, dark and wary,
In search of a Fairy,
Whose rozez he knowzez
Were not honeyed for he,
But to breathe the sweet incense
To solace the Princess
Of far-away Zzzee

A Swarming Rhyme

A swarm of bees in May
Is worth a cow and calf that day;
A swarm of bees in June
Is worth a silver spoon;
A swarm of bees in July
Is not worth a butterfly!

Traditional Irish

Here is a bee hive
Where are the bees?

Hidden away where nobody sees
Watch as out of the hive they fly
One, two, three, four, five,
BZZZZZZZZ – they’re alive!

Bees here, bees there
Bees, bees everywhere!
Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz!

Bees on my shoulders,
Bees on my toes,
Bees on my belly and
Bees on my nose!

Bees on my arms,
Bees on my lips,
Bees on my knees and
Bees on my hips!

Bees here, bees there,
Bees, bees everywhere!
Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz!

Won’t you bee my Valentine?
And buzz away with me?
We’ll buzz along together
Because you’re my honey bee!

Five busy honey bees were resting in the sun,
The first one said, ‘Let’s have some fun!”
The second one said, ‘Where shall that be?’
The third one said, ‘In the honey tree’
The fourth one said, Let’s make some honey sweet’
The fifth one said, ‘With pollen on our feet!’
The five little buzzy bees ang their buzzing tune
As they worked in the beehive all that afternoon
Bzzzzz! Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzz! Bzzzz!
